Nonprofit Dreamin’ 2026: Navigating Change and Finding the Right Path Forward

Nonprofit Dreamin’ in Charlotte, North Carolina, last week brought together more than 300 attendees, 50+ sessions, and some great conversations. Across panels, sessions, and hallway chats, one theme kept surfacing: the nonprofit Salesforce landscape is evolving quickly and it’s becoming harder for organizations to navigate with confidence.

Between NPSP, Agentforce Nonprofit (formerly Nonprofit Cloud/NPC), and a growing number of tools within and around the Salesforce ecosystem, nonprofits are being presented with more choices than ever before. While that innovation is exciting, it’s also creating real uncertainty for teams trying to make smart, long-term decisions.

The most common questions I heard throughout the event:

  • Is NPSP going away, and if so, when?

  • Should we be planning a move to Agentforce Nonprofit now?

  • What is the benefit of migrating today versus waiting?

  • Are there viable alternatives we should be considering?

These questions don’t have simple answers and that uncertainty is exactly what organizations are grappling with right now. What stood out to me most was the honesty in the room. There was a shared understanding that Agentforce Nonprofit is not the right fit for every organization today. Readiness varies widely based on budget, internal resources, data maturity, and overall strategic priorities. For some, it’s the right time to move. For others, it makes more sense to stabilize, optimize, and plan deliberately.

That level of nuance is important, and it’s something nonprofits deserve more of as they evaluate their options.

From our perspective, we feel confident supporting organizations on both sides of that decision. We’ve had many conversations helping teams navigate whether to stay on NPSP, move to Agentforce Nonprofit, or take a phased approach. There isn’t a single “right” answer, only the right answer for your organization.

And we genuinely enjoy having those conversations. Our goal is not to push a specific path, but to provide transparent, no-pressure guidance that helps organizations make informed decisions. With decades of combined experience in the nonprofit sector, we see our role as helping bring clarity through the noise.

Several sessions reinforced that the conversation isn’t just about technology, it’s about foundation. Discussions around AI, automation, and fundraising innovation were compelling, but they all pointed back to the same core truth: your data still drives everything.

One idea that stuck with me captured it perfectly: data is like a garden… you’re always managing weeds. No matter how advanced the tools become, maintaining clean, structured, and usable data remains essential.

Migration was another dominant theme throughout the conference. Sessions like “Moving Day: Real Talk Survival Guide to a Nonprofit Cloud Migration” and multiple panels on AI and data strategy made it clear that moving platforms is not just a technical exercise, it’s an organizational shift. It requires planning, change management, and a clear understanding of what success looks like on the other side.

Where Canvas Cloud Fits In

At Canvas Cloud, our focus is helping nonprofits move forward with clarity, not confusion.

One of the ways we’re doing that is through our Free Salesforce Health Check, which we see as an investment in helping organizations cut through the noise. It’s designed to provide a clear, objective view of your current environment and help identify the best path forward based on your goals.

For organizations considering a transition from NPSP, our NPSP to Agentforce Nonprofit FastTrack Accelerator provides a structured, strategic path to migrate efficiently while minimizing disruption.

For those looking to improve engagement, we help nonprofits leverage Experience Cloud to create modern, intuitive digital experiences for donors, volunteers, and constituents, bringing programs and communities closer together.

And for organizations that aren’t ready to migrate – or simply need ongoing support – our Collab Managed Services model ensures your Salesforce environment continues to evolve alongside your mission. Because Salesforce isn’t a one-time implementation, it’s a long-term investment that requires ongoing care and optimization.

Nonprofit Dreamin’ reinforced something we strongly believe: there is no universal roadmap right now. The right path depends on your organization’s goals, resources, and readiness.
